A Humbling Experience

Any one who knows me, knows I'm arrogant ,pompous and self-centered, with a general disdain for any person and all of society's rules.

So you can fathom the depth and weight of an incident capable of inducing an ounce of humility.
I work in a recruitment firm and have nothing but contempt for all ignorant rambling fools who seek jobs that have nothing to do with their aptitude or interest but are dictated by their worthless degree.

I was very proud to have taken the road less traveled by until I saw a simple guy who shocked me into reality. So what happened?
Eating out is a strenuous business considering I'm a vegan and there are very few affordable places in Kochi city.So i found a good place and started going there regularly. A few weeks later a rather good waiter started working there. He was diligent ,attentive and humble as well.
I was recruiting for a restaurant chain based in Bangalore at that time.A perfect find for the job.
So i found the right moment and asked "Do u work here full time" in Malayalam. He was confused for a moment and replied "No I also do marketing for INDIA TODAY" , imagine my surprise on hearing his answer was in English. It seems my subject of interest is from Mangalore and has limited knowledge of Malayalam.
He did his MSW with clinical psychology as specialization and got many job offers, but he is interested in marketing and such unconventional jobs. So he is working in his relative's hotel as a waiter! I've respect for every kind of job,but the situation in our state is such that any idiot with a degree thinks he is a neuro-scientist ,and will work only in world class corporate companies (or waste 1-2 years waiting for that to happen).

So meeting a guy who with his education and skills is serving food and washing dishes and doing that with 100 % sincerity has restored my faith in the youth of this country.
Seriously considering to hire him to work with me.
He has indeed earned my respect.
